Britney Spears was the victim of an internet hacker yesterday (5 January), resulting in an intruder sending a vulgar message to her fans.

A spokesperson for Britney confirmed the US singer's account on social networking site Twitter was hacked on Monday morning and an offensive blog update, or "tweet", was sent on her behalf to more than 15,000 fans around the world.

The post read: "Hi y'all! Brit Brit here, just wanted to update you all on the size of my vagina.

"It's about four-feet wide with razor sharp teeth."

Britney's spokesperson told Rolling Stone: "We apologise for any offence caused to Britney's fans and Twitter followers.

"We never want to offend anyone."

The message has since been removed and Britney's Twitter account has now been restored to normal service.
