Coldplay - 'Life in Technicolor ii'

Ever self-depreciating and concerned with world issues, Coldplay have stumbled across a new means of reducing their carbon footprint: recycling.

Taking time off from scrawling MTF - 'Make Trade Fair', come on now - on his left hand, Chris Martin has seen the opportunity to save an eighth of a tree by avoiding writing any new material and simply recording vocals over the instrumental chorus that began 2008's Vida La Vida.

While the original ('Life In Technicolor', no less) was a hushed, world music-influenced affair that provided an intriguing opening to a beguiling album, the extended version is an incongruous blend of Brian Eno's atmospherics and Martin's emotionless "woahs" and insipid lyrics.

Its only saving grace is Will Champion's machine-gun drumming that just about succeeds in infusing an element of intrigue into an otherwise humdrum experience.

Much like the Jay-Z-featuring 'Lost+' and the possibly forthcoming 'The Scientist Part Deux: Medicate This', 'Life In Technicolor ii' is perhaps best left to true enthusiasts and collectors. Great video though.

You really sound quite pessamistic towards Coldplay, Editor ! And that stuff about saving an eighth of a tree etc.....it doesnt make sense, and sounds like something that you or someone else has made up. Do you think that Chris Martin is never going to write on a piece of paper again ! You must have the wrong end of the stick with that one.
