The Script's guitarist almost missed the launch of the band's new album as his wife was due to give birth.

Dublin's soft-rocking trio held a party in their hometown to celebrate the launch of their self-titled debut album, but guitarist Mark Sheehan almost missed proceedings.

Drummer Glen Power told the Daily Star: "We only found out yesterday he was going to be able to come. When we heard we just went crazy."

A replacement was standing by in case Mark had to make an early exit, but Glen said that it wouldn't have been the same without him.

"It's so important he was here tonight because of the connection the three of us have. Without him it wouldn't have been the same", he said.

The Script's self-titled debut album is out now.
