Pattinson scotches Hunger Games rumours

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson has revealed he will not be starring in Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games - although the huge amount of speculation online meant he actually had to double check with his agent first.

"I woke up this morning and saw all these things about me being cast in The Hunger Games," the Twilight star told USA Today while at the Cannes Film Festival. "I was kind of curious for a second. So I called my agent."

"My agent was like: 'No... no one's going to offer you that part,'" added Pattinson. "I was like: 'Thanks for the reassurance.'"

The star had been mooted for the role of Finnick Odair, who in Suzanne Collins' books is a womanising former Games winner, but given Pattinson's recent career choices - the actor seems keen not to be pigeonholed as a teen heartthrob - many had doubts about whether he would even take the part if it was offered.

Catching Fire is to be helmed by Francis Lawrence (Water For Elephants, I Am Legend) after the previous film's director and screenwriter Gary Ross turned the job down due to what he called its "fixed and tight" production schedule.
