Marvel Avengers Assemble has topped the UK box office chart for a third consecutive week to take its total earnings in Britain past the £40m mark.
The superhero blockbuster earned £4.2m in its third weekend on release to retain the top spot, with American Pie: Reunion also a non-mover in second place.
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's latest collaboration Dark Shadows debuted in third with a £2.4m opening while Zac Efron's romantic drama The Lucky One fell to fourth place.
The 3D re-release of Disney classic Beauty & the Beast rounded off the top 5, with new releases All In Good Time and Piranha 3DD failing to make a substantial splash at the box office.
