Lincoln, Les Mis & Life of Pi lead BAFTA nominations

Orange British Academy Film Awards

Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, Ang Lee's Life of Pi and Tom Hooper's Les Miserables are the frontrunners for awards glory this year after the nominations for the EE British Academy Film Awards were announced.

Lincoln
receives ten nominations, with Les Miserables and Life of Pi each nominated in nine categories.

Bond thriller and box office smash Skyfall has eight nominations, to Argo's seven, and Anna Karenina's six, with Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty each nominated five times.

CHECK OUT THE FULL LIST OF NOMINATIONS BELOW

Ben Affleck is up for the Best Director prize alongside Michael Haneke for Amour, Lee for Life of Pi, Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained and Kathryn Bigelow for Zero Dark Thirty, (with Hooper missing out) while Affleck is also named in the Best Actor category along with Bradley Cooper, Hugh Jackman, Daniel Day-Lewis and Joaquin Phoenix.

Commenting on the nine nominations for Les Miserables, producer Cameron Mackintosh told Orange exclusively: "I am absolutely thrilled that Les Miserables has received so many nominations in so many categories and would like to add my own nomination for Tom Hooper whose vision inspired us all to turn this great musical into a great movie".

Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Lawrence, Helen Mirren and Emmanuelle Riva contest the Best Actress award while the nominees for Best British Film are Anna Karenina, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Les Miserables, Seven Psychopaths and Skyfall.

Finally, the Best Film award will be contested by Argo, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty.

The confirmation of this year's full list of BAFTA nominees follows the revelation that Andrea Riseborough, Juno Temple, Suraj Sharma, Elizabeth Olsen and Alicia Vikander are up for the public-voted EE Rising Star award.

Actors Alice Eve and Jeremy Irvine joined Bafta chairman John Willis at the Princess Anne Theatre this morning for the announcement of this year's nominations.

The EE British Academy Film Awards will take place on Sunday 10 February 2013 and will be held for the seventh year running at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Hosted by Stephen Fry, and sponsored by EE, the Awards will be broadcast exclusively on BBC One and BBC One HD that evening, preceded by a red carpet show on BBC Three.
