Fortune favours Brave at US box office

Brave

Pixar's latest animated adventure, Brave has shot to the top of the US box office on its opening week of release.

The animation, which is set in the Scottish Highlands and chronicles the adventures of a young princess who decides to change her fate, took an impressive US $66.7m in its opening weekend, making it Pixar's fourth highest-grossing opener ever.

Last week's chart-topper Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted fell one place, with a healthy hold of US $20.2m. Genre-hybrid Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opened with a disappointing US $16.5m at number three. Holdover titles Prometheus and Rock of Ages completed the top five, with takings of US $10m and US $8m respectively.

The only other new entry in the top 10 was Steve Carell's Seeking A Friend for The End of the World, which debuted at number 10 with a disappointing US $3.8m.
