Helen Mirren is to star in her first comic book movie alongside Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman.

Red is about a former CIA agent who is forced to come out of retirement when a high-tech assassin targets him.

Mirren will play a character with a lethal set of skills, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

John C Reilly and Mary-Louise Parker are also both in negotiations to appear in the movie.

Production is due to start in January on location in Toronto and Louisiana.
