Johnny Depp has signed up to star in The Grand Budapest Hotel, the next film from Wes Anderson.

According to Deadline.com, Moonrise Kingdom director Anderson will write and direct the film, about which little is known other than the title.

Depp was first linked with The Grand Budapest Hotel last week, with Owen Wilson, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe and Jeff Goldblum also reportedly approached by Anderson for prospective roles.

The Grand Budapest Hotel comes after Anderson scored the most enthusiastic reviews of his career for Moonrise Kingdom, with the filmmaker saying: "I don't think I've ever had a film that got quite as enthusiastic reviews as this one, which is great."

Speaking at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Anderson told Orange Wednesdays & Film of his plans to produce his next film in Europe, but said the project was "kind of a secret".

"It' got a title, it's set in Europe, I've been wanting to make a movie there," he said in May. "I don't know where exactly."
