Nicolas Cage and John Cusack are in negotiations to star in Alaska-based thriller The Frozen Ground, reports claim.
Based on the true story of serial killer Robert Hansen, Scott Walker (not the maverick musisican) will make his directorial debut with the film, having written the script.
According to Deadline.com, Cusack is being lined up to play Hansen, a well-liked member of his Anchorage neighbourhood who kidnapped more than a dozen women over a 12-year period and flew them to the Alaskan Wilderness where he hunted and killed them.
Cage, meanwhile, has been linked with the role of the Alaskan state trooper who finds a surviving victim of Hansen's menace and works with her to bring the killer to justice.
Set to begin production in Anchorage this autumn, The Frozen Ground will be produced by Emmett Furla Films and Amber Entertainment.
