The Avengers break records at US box office
The Avengers has become the first film to take more than $100m in its second weekend on release in the US.
The Marvel blockbuster earned $103.1m in the US, beating Avatar's $75.6m record for second-weekend takings.
Joss Whedon's action-packed adventure now looks comfortably on its way to surpassing the $1bn mark at the global box office.
Tim Burton's new effort Dark Shadows was the highest new entry in the US, claiming second place with a $28.8 opening weekend.
British ensemble comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel climbed eight places to chart in eighth position while Eva Mendes drama Girl in Progress debuted in tenth.
