A gritty historical crime drama called The Wettest County in the World is attracting the attention of some of the biggest young stars in Hollywood.

Shia LaBeouf, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Gosling have all been linked with the project, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Road's John Hillcoat could be set to direct the movie, which is based on the story of Depression-era bootleggers.

The Wettest County In The World is based on the novel by Matt Bondurant and follows the story of three brothers who form the main gang at the centre of the country's moonshine trade.
