Third Ice Age sequel announced

The hugely popular Ice Age series is to get a third sequel.

The franchise's home studio, 20th Century Fox, has announced plans to release Ice Age: Continental Drift in July 2012.

Each movie in the series has gone on to bigger and better things at the box office, with the first Ice Age taking $383.3m worldwide in 2002.

The first follow-up, Ice Age: The Meltdown, took $655.4m in 2006, with last year's Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs raking in a mammoth $884.8m.
