Gus Van Sant and Bret Easton Ellis are teaming up to write a new script based on the double suicides of artists Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake.
Based on Vanity Fair article The Golden Suicides, the film will follow the rise of Duncan and Blake as she became one of the first videogame designers for girls and he found fame through his digital paintings.
As their success grew, so did their paranoia and they began to believe that government and religious organisations were conspiring against them.
Duncan took her own life in 2007 and Blake committed suicide by walking into the Atlantic Ocean a week later, after finding Duncan's body on the floor of their bedroom.
Van Sant, who most recently directed the Oscar-winning biopic Milk, is only involved as writer at this point, according to Variety. He is also currently working on the drama Restless.
Easton Ellis is best known for writing the novel American Psycho.
