John Mayer: 'Jackson memorial was humanising'

John Mayer has described yesterday's memorial for Michael Jackson as "humanising".
The guitarist performed at the King Of Pop's tribute concert at the Los Angeles Staples Centre yesterday evening (7 July) and later said that the service captured how human and vulnerable the iconic star was.
John told US talk show host Larry King: "All I could keep thinking was how humanising it was. You know, Michael Jackson wasn't superhuman. He was extrahuman. But nobody's superhuman.
"I think, by the end of it, the best service of all was the service done to Michael Jackson - to render him finally as being a human being."
Mayer also explained his thinking behind the insrumental rendition of Jackson's 'Human Nature' that he performed at the event, revealing that he was concerned his vocal range would not do justice to the song.
He added: "In a way, it was sort of respectfully leaving an absence. You know, the presence of his absence.
"I don't have a great vocal range - the decision not to sing was just out of knowing what's best for me."
