Joss Stone has recorded a new album - without her record label knowing.

The Devon resident says she didn't trust her management not to interfere, so she holed herself away at her mum's house to make her follow-up to 2007's Introducing Joss Stone.

She told the Daily Star: "I recorded the bulk of my new album in the space of a week in February this year.
 
"But it was a secret from the record company because I didn't want them f***ing with it."

Joss explained that she has reaped the rewards of strict time limitations she imposed on the project, which resulted in a "raw" aesthetic.

She added: "Because we wrote and recorded most of the album in such a short space of time it has a very raw feel.

"We literally didn't have time to make it sound contrived or fake."
