'In For The Kill' might still be sitting pretty in the upper echelons of the chart, but electro duo La Roux evidently don't see that as any reason not to release another single hot on its heels.
'Bulletproof' shares the same unmistakable 8-bit synth tones and laptop beats as its predecessor, but bequiffed frontwoman Elly Jackson keeps closer tabs on her screech this time around. While 'In For Kill' was a "Marmite" song, 'Bulletproof' is more comparable to honey, with a sugary-sweet melody and sticky pop sensibilities in stark contrast to Jackson's fiercely pessimistic approach to beginning a relationship.
She reminds us of her independent style, singing, "Been there, done that, messed around/I'm having fun don't put me down/I'll never let you sweep me off my feet," before launching into the simple chorus line: "This time baby, I'll be bulletproof." The chorus succeeds in making the song's sentiment all the more intriguing - developing a standard 'Independent Woman'-style affair into a cautionary tale of not putting all your eggs in one love nest.
