Matt Cardle bags X Factor Christmas No.1!

He's done it! Matt Cardle, the honey-voiced fans' favourite, has claimed the prized Christmas No.1 slot with his Biffy Clyro cover 'When we Collide'.
The X Factor winner beat off competition from Rihanna - ironic given her duet with the pop star in the X Factor final helped propel Cardle to victory. Her track 'What's my Name', a duet with Drake, came in at No.2.
Cardle can expect a busy 2011 after his Christmas success and may secretly be breathing a sigh of relief after a Facebook campaign to keep him off the No.1 slot fell by the wayside. Organised under the moniker 'Cage Against the Machine', the campaign aimed to get the public to buy John Cage's infamous silent composition '4'33' - however it never gained traction levelling out at 21 in the singles chart.
'Surfin' Bird' by Trashmen was third, followed by neon body-poppers Black Eyed Peas, with 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' in fourth. Dewey-eyed Ellie Goulding grabbed fifth spot with her cover of Elton John's 'Your Song' - from the recent John Lewis Christmas TV campaign.
In the album charts, it looks like Robbie's return is having a positive effect on Take That. The reformed quintet is number one with their new album Progress. There's a new entry at three with Michael Jackson's posthumous effort Michael proving he's still got it.
And that's your lot. What musical delights will 2011 hold in store?
