Doll & Em Star Says Show With Friend Was A Risk

Mighty Boosh star Dolly Wells has told Sky News she was worried about creating a television series with best friend Emily Mortimer because she "didn't have nearly as much to lose".

The British actresses have co-created a fictional comedy series for Sky Living in which Hollywood actress Mortimer hires Wells as her personal assistant.

The series follows the strains put on their friendship and features a number of A-list cameos.

Mortimer told Eamonn Holmes: "Of course it is an idiotic idea to make your childhood friend your personal assistant."

In real life Mortimer has become a big star in Hollywood with roles in The Newsroom, Hugo and Shutter Island.

And Wells said that was playing on her mind when the idea for the show came about: "I was thinking, this could be really bad, I could really bring her down monumentally."

But for Mortimer making the show as all about spending time with her childhood friend.

"The surprise for me was that not only was it really fun, it kind of ups your game in a weird way. It helped me to be my best self because you love that person so much you don't want to let them down," she said.

Doll and Em is on Sky Living HD from Tuesday February 18 at 10pm.
