Adam Driver 'To Play Villain' In New Star Wars
Girls creator and actress Lena Dunham appears to have let the cat out of the bag by revealing that her co-star Adam Driver is to play a villain in the new Star Wars film.
Dunham (@lenadunham) tweeted: "We're VERY proud of Adam Driver re: Star Wars. He's about to rip a hole in da force. Is that a thing? I guess I should see those movies?"
The post follows a report on Variety's website that the 30-year-old is close to signing for Star Wars: Episode VII.
If true, Driver is the first cast member to be confirmed for the new installment of the sci-fi franchise, which will begin shooting at London's Pinewood Studios in April.
Carrie Fisher told a US magazine last month that she will be reprising her role as Princess Leia but this has not been confirmed.
Other cast announcements are due in the coming weeks.
In November hundreds of hopefuls queued up to audition for two leading roles in the movie.
The Walt Disney casting call said it was looking for people to play a girl called Rachel and a boy called Thomas.
Driver's star has risen in recent months with his acclaimed performance in Girls and roles in Inside Llewyn Davis and Lincoln.
He is also rumoured to have a part in Martin Scorsese's Silence with Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield.
