Adele's Album Is UK's Fifth Best-Selling Ever
Adele's album 21 has become the fifth biggest-selling of all time in the UK and has outsold Michael Jackson's thriller.
Sales figures from the Official Charts Company show the 23-year-old Rolling In The Deep singer's second album has sold 4,274,300 copies.
The album has already sold 500 more than the landmark Michael Jackson album and is still selling an average of 20,000 copies a week.
"To add to her many landmark records, Adele's achievement in overtaking Thriller in the all-time sales list is truly remarkable," said the Official Charts Company's managing director Martin Talbot.
"Thriller has long been recognised as one of the most iconic albums of all time - there is now no doubt that 21 can be spoken of in the same breath."
Adele's album has spent 23 weeks at number one since its release and has outsold hit albums including Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon and Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms.
The singer has also picked up six Grammy Awards and two Brit Awards this year.

call me an old cynic but me feels theres a little something not quite all as it seems here. maybe a slight massaging of the figuers here, having heard all the albums in this chart i can assure you that adeles album is very mediocre when judged against the other represented pieces of work.
looking at the list of albums ime amazed that they can mention adele in the same breath as queen. jackson. abba. oasis. me detects the a hint of over egging the pudding that is adele.an album of over manafacyured bland pap
