Adele sells nine million album in U.S.
Adele's smash-hit album 21 has hit nine million sales in the U.S., becoming only the 29th release in history to reach the landmark.
A year after Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band's Greatest Hits compilation became the 28th album to hit nine million sales, Adele's 21 made it into the exclusive club thanks to another 100,000-plus sales week, which propelled the album back up the Billboard 200 chart from four to two.
The album has now spent 64 consecutive weeks in the top 10, tying Paula Abdul's Forever Your Girl for the second longest top 10 run among albums by women. Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill holds the record with 72 weeks.
While that record is attainable for Adele, she has some way to go before she can claim the record for the longest top 10 run in U.S. history - that belongs to the soundtrack to The Sound of Music with 109 weeks.
