Angry Birds Star Wars tops chart

A Star Wars version of popular game Angry Birds has taken top place on the paid-for app chart for iPhone and iPad this week.

Angry Birds Star Wars, which was released a week ago, has knocked instant messaging app WhatsApp Messenger off the number one spot, where it has been for months.

The new app is based on traditional Angry Birds - which was hugely successful and even downloaded by Prime Minister David Cameron - but loosely follows the plot of Star Wars: Episode IV.

On the free charts, YouTube takes top place for the iPhone and Daniel Perez's Piano, a pocket piano app, takes top spot for the iPad.

Another popular game, Bad Piggies, remains in the top three for another week for the paid-for iPhone apps and is eighth in the paid-for iPad app charts.

Last week ITV Player was one spot above BBC iPlayer for free iPad apps, but this week it has fallen two places below iPlayer.
