Animal Rights Activists Held Over 'Blackmail'
Three alleged animal rights activists, including two Britons, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to blackmail.
A 50-year-old woman was detained in Croydon, south London, while a man and a woman, both aged 25, were held by police in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Sky's crime correspondent Martin Brunt said: "I am told this is a result of a very long-running investigation led by Scotland Yard but involving police forces across Europe.
"Scotland Yard will be looking for the extradition of those two individuals in Amsterdam."
Officers are searching the home in Croydon where the 50-year-old was arrested, and a business address in central London, while Dutch counterparts are searching a home and a business in Amsterdam.
Police said the target of the suspected blackmail was in the UK would not give any further details.

Simple, if you are against the use of animals in medical research, no access to medicines for you and your family and live or die with the consequences. Animals for cosmetic research - a definite no, we have all the cosmetics we require

Somebody has to stick up for helpless animals from being tortured and killed for a 'Just for profits' sick society. They should be given a medal!

Breaking the law is never justified, no matter how righteous you believe your cause to be

I can never work out the mindset of these nutters who put the welfare of 4 legged animals before the welfare of the 2 legged ones. They claim to defend animal rights but are quite prepared to harm the animal at the top of the evolution chain. And as for animal rights what a load of tosh. Animals dont have rights the human animal has RESPONSIBILITIES towards them. That should be good for half a dozen negatives but it dosen't make the point wrong

Roger Siviter
Having moral compassion towards our fellow creatures does not make us nutters Dave. It's one thing to kill for survival but an entirely different matter when it's for profit or financial gain. Animals have the same rights as we have, to live, procreate and survive, it is pure arrogance to believe we are somehow vastly superior and that we in some way have responsibilities or control over other creatures and their kingdoms. Ask the question.... which animal is destroying this beautiful and only planet we all share?

I think most people would be more concerned about what the scientists are doing to the animals. Leaving them all with shampoo on their eyes, for instance. Cutting open chimpanzee skulls to stick electronic wires into their brains. Whatever the animal rights people did or did not do, all I'm saying is, most people are likely to be more concerned about the animals they were trying to save. If they were even trying to save any. If they weren't trying to save animals, that's a different matter, entirely. Then again, most people would think, blackmail isn't really how charities should be run.
