Ant And Dec Get Emotional At National TV Awards
Ant and Dec broke down in tears at the National Television Awards on Wednesday night as they picked up the prestigious Landmark Prize.
It was the third award of the night for the Geordie duo, who also walked away with the Entertainment Presenter prize and Programme gong for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
But it was the Landmark Award - given to mark 25 years in showbusiness - that caused the popular pair to embrace and well up.
They told the crowd at London's O2 Arena: "Neither of us would be here if it wasn't for each other."
The pair were even sent a tribute from the Prince of Wales who said: "The warmth and empathy they show towards charitable causes, their viewers and their deep friendship towards one another are as great achievements as their countless and well-deserved awards.
"The nation has taken them to their hearts."
It was also a good night for Coronation Street - which walked away with two of the main prizes - Serial Drama Award and the Serial Drama Performance award for actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Hayley Cropper.
Hesmondhalgh accepted her trophy on stage with her on screen husband David Neilson - who plays Roy.
She told fans: "We said that if either of us were lucky enough to get this tonight we'd come up together because there ain't no Hayley without Roy and there ain't no Roy without Hayley."
The prize marked a fitting end to 16 years on the Cobbles for Hesmondhalgh, who bowed out this week after her character committed suicide in a controversial right-to-die storyline.
Other winners on the night included Mrs Brown's Boys - who saw off competition from Derek and Miranda - to win the Comedy Award for the second year running.
And Doctor Who rounded off its 50th anniversary celebrations with two wins - Matt Smith, whose last appearance as the Doctor came on Christmas Day, was awarded the Drama Performance prize while the show was named Most Popular Drama.
