Arcade Fire To Headline Glastonbury Festival
Arcade Fire are the first headline act to be announced for next summer's Glastonbury festival.
The Canadian indie rock band revealed they will be performing on the Friday evening of the Somerset event - June 27.
They broke the news to fans by posting a picture on Twitter featuring four show dates next June, including the Glastonbury gig.
The message was written in chalk on a piece of material draped on a sofa and next to a sequinned cushion.
The Glastonbury festival Twitter page also confirmed the news, saying: "We're very pleased to announce that @ArcadeFire will headline the Pyramid Stage on the Friday at Glastonbury 2014."
The group recently played low-key UK shows under the name The Reflektors to promote their fourth album Reflektor.
Frontman Win Butler had already hinted that the band may play the Somerset event with a less-than-subtle comment during a radio interview last month.
Discussing plans to play summer festivals next year, he told DJ Jo Whiley: "Get your wellies ready."
In October, Glastonbury tickets for 2014 sold out in a record time of one hour and 27 minutes.
Organisers Emily and Michael Eavis said they were "blown away" by the response.
In a statement, they said: "We're sorry that many of you missed out on a ticket.
"We genuinely try to make the ticket system as fair as it can be, but when demand outstrips supply, it is an unfortunate inevitability that some people will be left disappointed."
