Ashley Banjo In Britain's Biggest Street Dance

Ashley Banjo and dance group Diversity have hit the streets of Stockton to create the UK's largest ever street dance.

Starting at 8pm tonight on Sky 1 HD, Ashley Banjo's Big Town Dance is the dancer's most ambitious project to date.

The winners of Britain's Got Talent in 2009 only had two months to persuade the people of the northern market town to join in an energetic street performance aimed at uniting the community through the power of dance.

Boasting three dance halls in its heyday, Stockton was once bursting at the seams with people ready to jitterbug, jive, shuffle, and swing.

But all three venues hadclosed by the 1970s as the town's residents appeared to fall out of love with shaking their stuff.

In the new show, the dancer tries to reverse the trend by bringing together strangers in a range of jobs.

They include bus drivers, street sweepers, nurses, teachers, pub landlords and policemen.

As the volunteers come together, their personal journeys are revealed as they overcome emotional and physical obstacles to meet the challenge.

Then, for one day only, Stockton's high street is transformed as Ashley's prot?s bring their routines together.
