Barack v Becks: Obama Teases Star About Pants

Barack Obama has left David Beckham in stitches after teasing him about his underpants and his advancing age.

The president met the LA Galaxy star and his teammates when they travelled to the White House after winning the American Major League Soccer (MLS) championship.

Mr Obama congratulated the players before targeting Beckham in a series of one-liners - including one in which he admired the star for his ability to balance his career on the pitch with his own underwear range.

He said: "We also have a young up-and-comer in the team, a guy called David Beckham.

"I have to say that I gave David a hard time - I said half his teammates could be his kids.

"We are getting old David, though I have to say that you are holding up better than me.

"Last year at the age of 36, David had his best year on MLS, leading the team with 15 assists.

"He did that despite fracturing his spine half way through the season, injuring his hamstring the week before the championship."

Mr Obama added: "He's tough. It's a rare man that can be that tough on the field and also have his own line of underwear."
