Baroness Thatcher In Hospital After Surgery

Baroness Thatcher is recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery to remove a growth on her bladder.
The former Prime Minister is "absolutely fine" after the minor operation, a spokeswoman said.
The 87-year-old was admitted to hospital on Wednesday after complaining of pains. She is expected to remain there while she recovers.
Former Thatcher adviser Lord Bell said: "Following an examination in hospital on Wednesday Mrs Thatcher had a minimal invasive operation to remove a growth in her bladder.
"The operation was completely satisfactory.
"She will stay in hospital to recuperate for a few days and then she will return home. Her daughter Carol was with her in hospital.
"We will make no further comment."
Baroness Thatcher has suffered a number of health scares in recent years, including a series of minor strokes.
She was not well enough to join the Queen for a lunch with former and serving prime ministers as part of the Diamond Jubilee this summer.
And two years ago she missed an 85th birthday party thrown for her by David Cameron at 10 Downing Street.
In October she was sufficiently well, however, to mark her 87th birthday with lunch at a restaurant in London's exclusive St James's district with her son Mark and his wife.
Her health was thrust into the global spotlight this year when Meryl Streep starred in a controversial Hollywood film about her.
The Iron Lady drew criticism from Mr Cameron and others for concentrating on the dementia she has suffered after a series of small strokes. Streep won an Oscar for the role.
Baroness Thatcher was the first female prime minister - between 1979 and 1990 - and first female leader of the Conservative Party.

Robbie369P .
Agreed

shirley sutton
Yeah course we do council tax privatised companies no national assets etc etc

t.bulgin
Well said snape. Only the fools who can't remember the dark days before she rescued us are making their sad, immature, pithy little comments. Using phrases such as "etc etc" because they have no real clue about what they are talking about.

bjnk
Now reaping her rewards for her stewardship of this nation and the misery she brought to millions.

stevie may
How long before the people of this country can be free of all her evil?

Paul Walsh
How do you know that she doesn't have private medical insurance?

t.bulgin
I didn't. Fool.

bjnk
shirley, anyone else at that age would probably not have been attended to at all.

t.bulgin
What are you all saying about our NHS. That they ignore the plight of our old ?. That is not what I witnessed recently. Our doctors and nurses treat many many old people very well. Shame on you for trying to slur them.

If you believe in democracy, then the ultimate conclusion to be drawn is that she deserves no pity.

rob bee
The killer of the mining industry

stephen
divided the people

t.bulgin
The miners unions divided the people. Ignore historical fact if you want.

stephen
selfish greedy society

Chris Robinson
There has ALWAYS been a divide in this country, as in all countries, it's between capital and the labour movement, the exploiters and the exploited. At certain periods in history, that division comes to a head and explodes. The Thatcher government deliberately set out to provoke the miners' strike in order to destroy the power of the unions so it could then put its neo-liberal programme into action - privatising the utilities etc for their rich friends and de-regulating the finance and banking sector - thus we have today's situation, as Labour continued these Thatcherite policies.

stephen
it was said 2 days ago any one over 70 will not get cancer treatment . she will at 87

t.bulgin
Who said that ?

stephen
its been on the news all week .the cut off point is 70

t.bulgin
Really, not a mention here.

Chris Robinson
I saw that item, Stephen. Also since buried was the item about UKIP's council election candidate in Essex (I think, or Kent) who called for compulsory abortion for foetuses who are diagnosed as Down Syndrome or spina bifida. UKIP suspended him but still allowed him to run on their ticket (?) - as Cameron said, 'fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists' and, you know what, each and every one of UKIP would kiss the feet of Thatcher.

t.bulgin
Yes Chris, they would. Because she stood up to the bullies in europe who ukip see as their raison d'etre.

t.bulgin
stephen, can you point me at a link to that item, i am disturbed by it and want to find out more....thanks.

stephen
why are you 70

t.bulgin
No, but I care for many who are.

bjnk
tb, thumbs up for your caring thoughts.

Graham Barnes
Hopefully, it won't be long before 90% of the country can go out and finally have a celebration! Know what I mean?

t.bulgin
What are you on about 90 %. Do you really think she would have won three elections with those figures. You are fooling yourself.

Chris Robinson
The tories ditched her BECAUSE she was a liability by 1990. Remember the magnificent anti-poll tax campaign? Fantastic. 'Militant's Revenge', some called it.

t.bulgin
How we could do with a political leader with her conviction and courage now. Best wishes,Get well soon.

Chris Robinson
I'd like to make a more 'positive, uplifting' comment. I remember the joy of watching her leave Downing Street in tears after our anti-poll tax campaign forced her 'colleagues' to finally ditch her because she had become an electoral liability. Millions of working class people organised against her poll tax - a blatant further transference of wealth from the poor to the rich. It was a fantastic movement and lessons to be learned for today against these cuts.

stephen
yes Chris i remember that great day

t.bulgin
Don't agree with you politically Chris, I think you may have gathered that. But I respect the fact that you are resisting the urge to gloat and wish bad things on her.

t.bulgin
What a sad bunch of vultures are circling allready. Same people that like to refer to the tories as "the nasty party". take a good long hard look in the mirror...... Who are the nasty ones ?

stephen
she is

James Lackmaker
Loss of poll tax, what a great idea, hmm, we go from a equal system to one where your contribution is based on the value of your property, something which we have little control over, cos that makes sense. Have a lot more time for Maggie than Tony - as for evil....., least she did not send her fellow countrymen to war on a lie....

stephen
no she started a war

t.bulgin
James, you are 100% correct. Well said. The poll tax was seized on by the left as a tool to attack her. When analyzed it is actually a fairer way to pay for our services. The problem was that councils got greedy. As for blair, still plain old mister and allways will be. Funny how its so hard to find anyone to admit they voted for him. Many people are proud to admit that they voted for Maggie though.

stevie may
No pity for thatcher. No mercy for dictators or the slaves who follow them

stevie may
Why does orange remove all the posts from people who have good reason to resent thatcher? I've had 4 posts removed already. . . I see right wingers are never censored. . .
