Barrowman upset over scrapped gay scene

John Barrowman has defended a gay sex scene that was scrapped from Torchwood, insisting the romp "facilitates the story".

BBC bosses cut footage of Barrowman, as bisexual Captain Jack Harkness, kissing a barman from the third episode of the current fourth series.

A spokesperson for the BBC maintained the edit did "not change the story in any way" but Barrowman is adamant the romance is vital to the plot.

He explains, "It's not gratuitous sex, it facilitates the story. It's nothing they grab just to put on the camera and sensationalise it.

"You go back into history with Jack and you discover an integral relationship that is part and parcel to what is happening. It's a massive story."

The episode, which has already aired unedited in the U.S., will be broadcast on Thursday night.
