Billie Piper shuts down Doctor Who comeback rumour

Actress Billie Piper has denied rumours she is set for a shock return to cult sci-fi TV show Doctor Who.

The Secret Diary of a Call Girl star played the Time Lord's sidekick Rose Tyler for two years until 2006, and later reprised her role in 2008 and 2010.

Reports surfaced last year suggesting Piper has been approached to return to the hit drama, but she has now insisted there are no plans for her to come back, blaming an off-the-cuff remark by Doctor Who actor Matt Smith for sparking the rumour.

She tells talk show host Graham Norton, "No. I've not been asked. I think Matt Smith said something in passing or in jest like, 'That would be nice,' and it became something, but no."
