Patrick Halpin: Body Found In Leicester Square
Police say they believe a body found near Leicester Square in London is Irish teenager Patrick Halpin.
The 18-year-old from Loughrea, Co Galway, went missing shortly after midnight on Wednesday when he left Zoo Bar in Bear St.
Police discovered a body around 7.50pm on Thursday in an area off Leicester Square, close to the bar and a Burger King outlet.
Mr Halpin was visiting London on a trip with his college when he went missing.
Police said: "Although formal identification has yet to take place, we believe the body found last night close to Leicester Square is that of missing Irishman Patrick Halpin.
"Next of kin has been informed. It is being treated as non-suspicious."
His sister, Regina Ni hAilpin, had issued an appeal on Facebook for help to find her brother.
She wrote: "(Patrick) was in London on a trip this week and went missing from a nightclub ... and hasn't been seen since.
"He was in The Zoo nightclub just off Leicester Square and left to go to Burger King but did not return home.
"He should have been staying in the Astor Museum Hostel, Bloomsbury, London."
Mr Halpin's sister and father travelled to London on Thursday to help the search.
According to the Irish Independent, their hopes were raised when were an airport official incorrectly told police the teenager had turned up for the flight home.
