Boy Bullied Over Cartoon Tried To Hang Himself
An 11-year-old boy has tried to commit suicide after he was bullied for being a fan of TV show My Little Pony, his family claims.
Michael Morones was found hanging off the top rail of his bunk bed in Raleigh, North Carolina, 11 days ago, news reports said.
He suffered brain damage because he was deprived of oxygen, and remains in hospital.
His parents say that he was pushed into it by bullies at school.
His mother Tiffany Morones-Suttle told the local station WTVD that her son was teased over the cartoon.
"He's the kid that never walks. He dances everywhere," his mother said in the interview.
"He's so full of energy. He's always on the move."
There has been no reaction from officials at the Wake County School District.
Fans of My Little Pony, known as "bronies", have started a fund to help the family at gofundme.com. So far they have raised almost $55,000 (£33,000) - more than double the initial goal of $20,000 (£12,000).
"The family has reached out and is asking if the community from the show he loves can help out with the medical expenses," said the Michael Morones Recovery Fund appeal.
The show, though primarily targeted at girls, has a following of male enthusiasts of all ages.
