Boy Scout Shot In The Head At Campsite
A 12-year-old has died after shooting himself in the head at a Boy Scout camp in San Diego.
Police have said they are investigating whether the gunshot wound was self-inflicted or accidental.
They found a gun in the child's tent at the Fiesta Island Youth Camp in Mission Bay.
However, it is unclear who the weapon belonged to and how it got into the camp site.
Officers received a call about the shooting at around 7.30am on Monday.
The boy had reportedly arrived at the site on Sunday with around 20 Scouts from Las Vegas for a seven-day stay.
His father was also at the camp at the time of the shooting.
He, the scoutmaster and the rest of the troop were being interviewed by police, according to Fox 5 news.
Boy Scouts of America said it was an "extremely sad day".
Spokesman Deron Smith said counsellors were at the camp, adding that the organisation does not allow firearms at its events.
