Third Brit In A Month Dies In Majorca Hotel Fall

A British tourist has died after reportedly falling from a hotel balcony in Majorca - the third Briton to die on the Spanish island in less than a month.
Charlotte Faris, 23, is said to have plunged to her death during the early hours of Saturday morning in the popular party resort of Magaluf.
The holidaymaker from Stevenage, Herts, had checked into the Teix Hotel just hours earlier, according to reports.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has confirmed the death.
A FCO spokesman said: "We are aware and can confirm the death of British national Charlotte Faris in Majorca on May 5.
"We are providing consular assistance to her family."
Benjamin Harper, 28, from Twickenham, southwest London, fell to his death at the four-star Sol Antillas hotel in Magaluf on April 20.
It is believed the roofer had gone out on to the balcony for a cigarette before leaning over and falling while on a stag do.
It came three days after the death of Adam Atkinson, 20, who suffered fatal injuries when he reportedly fell from a stairwell at the Hotel Martinique in the same resort.

Hights and boose do not mix!

Roger Siviter
It also affects the part of the brain that enables people to spell correctly!

movvi
No, they certainly do not - and I find that the combination of booze and heights can be particularly hazardous too! Tee hee.

Julie Doughty
The demon booze again no doubt. Very sorry to hear of yet another youngster losing their life, thoughts go to the family and loved ones left behind. We dont get this sort of thing happening with people who just smoke ciggarettes do we???.. . ...

Valerie Wood
yes we do If you read the article they say that one fella went out on the balcony to have a ciggy

jonny english
Valerie, you completely missed the point!

Julie Doughty
Yes Valerie, you totally missed the point I was trying to make!!!

movvi
Ha ha ha. Love it!

Bernadette Griffin
Unfortunately whether this death or the others were influenced by alcohol or not this resort has that reputation so perhaps it should look at cleaning its act up?

dyrewolfe
And how would you propose they do that? Magaluf has had "that reputation" for the best part of 30 years, as one of THE holiday destinations for young people. There is no legislation you can make that will stop people being stupid (or even leaning over balconies while hammered).

Julie Doughty
What a daft thing to say!!! You can have the most sedate of resorts but it dont stop people drinking themselves stupid!!!

Jim England
Dropping like flies!

Roger Siviter
No Jim, flies can fly

Steve Pickering
make the rail on the balcony bigger so you lean over.

Historically tourists are always falling over balconies and being killed. More often than not it goes unreported in the English press. In my opinion many of the balcony rails are too low. Furthermore, taller people can over balance easier, even when sober. The other issue is when people nod off when sitting on a balcony wall. Also easily done after a few drinks.

Youd think the hotel after so many falls would change that, but at the same time some idiots will be hanging over shouting at mates or passers by off their faces, shame but these things happen!

Julie Doughty
Change what?? Its not just one hotel, its several, its too much booze, end of!!!

Tim lee
a bit incensitive to be advertising magaluf holidays on this page

Julie Crumpton
Why? People will still go, whatever!

Margaret M. Mason
WHEN WILL THESE YOUNGSTERS LEARN?

Roger Siviter
In time honoured fashion.........'When' and 'If' they become 'Oldsters', I'm afraid!

Louise Smith
Too sad, but too much booze, these youngsters cant cope with it. As Margaret M Mason says so wisely.... "When will they learn"

karen hughes
people should not put comments on these pages when they dont know the people or the cercumstances of there deaths .i was young once ,most people have a drink while on holiday, this does not mean.that all young kids turn into booze fueled idiots.they are just out to have a good time

Julie Crumpton
Of course they are, only young once, only trouble is, a lot of drink and a high rise balcony is a recipe for disaster, i would be worried sick if it was my kids! No one wants to spoil their fun.....only keep them safe

Something needs to be done about this it's happening to often????

Roger Siviter
One death by falling....... A tragedy. Two.......A coincidence? But three......?????

Louise Mcmullan
I think some people should be ashamed of the comments they have left. The old saying 'if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all' some of those comments are so insensitive!!

Michelle Fountain
I've been to magaluf many a time and witnessed frequently, drunk people using the balcony to climb from one room to the other, better security at the hotels at night would help. Very sad RIP

movvi
If it was an accident, then of course something needs to be done regarding safety etc - and quickly! If it was drunken silliness, then I really don't think it's a hotel's responsibility to foot the bill for extra security at night at all - grown adults do need to look after themselves as well! Either way, what a terrible time for these families.
