Britney Spears: Star Set For Las Vegas Residency
Britney Spears has been given a lavish welcome as she prepares for her $30m (£18m) two-year residency in Las Vegas.
The 32-year-old singer will debut her show, Piece Of Me, on December 27 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in time for Sin City's large New Year crowds.
Fans waited for her outside the casino as dancers and firebreathers performed a welcome ceremony.
The Toxic singer will perform 50 shows each in 2014 and 2015, including her top hits and more recent material.
Spears has released seven platinum albums since hitting the music scene in 1999. She has more than a dozen Top 10 hits, including Gimme More and Oops! I Did It Again.
Her eighth album, Britney Jean, was released this week.
David Hoenemeyer, the president of Planet Hollywood, said the pop star has a bigger following than any other musician playing on the Strip.
He said: "She really cuts across all demographics. She has a remarkable following, and the ticket sales reflect that.
"It's a really big deal to have a star of her calibre performing for us."
Music stars including the likes of Elvis Presley, Sir Tom Jones and Sir Elton John have taken up lucrative headline residencies in Las Vegas over the years.
Many singers are enticed to sign up as their careers start to wane. Britney could be hoping it kickstarts a revival in her fortunes.
