Cameron 'Gets The Message' After Election

David Cameron has said the message from his Conservative Party's poor showing in local elections is "loud and clear" - that the Government must focus on what matters to ordinary people and deliver its promises.

In an article for The Telegraph, the Prime Minister wrote: "I know that the familiar excuses - low turnout, midterm blues - aren't enough.

"Even the difficulties of our economic situation and the tough but necessary decisions the Government has had to take cannot fully explain the results."

More than 400 Tories lost their seats in last Thursday's local council elections, while 330 from coalition partners the Liberal Democrats found themselves cast out.

Labour gained 824 seats and won control over an additional 32 authorities.

The coalition, which marks its two year anniversary this week, will be hoping to get things back on track when it sets out its legislative agenda for the coming political year in the Queen's Speech on Wednesday.

But before that Mr Cameron will stage a joint visit with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to drive home the message that the Government is focusing on "jobs, growth and the economy".

Mr Cameron said in the Telegraph that voters wanted to know the coalition was "not just a bunch of accountants".

"When people think about the economy they don't see it through the dry numbers of the deficit figures, trade balances or inflation forecasts - but instead the things that make the difference between a life that's worth living and a daily grind that drags them down," he said.

Tory leaders have been forced to defend themselves after a backlash from the party's MPs and peers after the thumping they received in the polls.

Chancellor George Osborne admitted the results were "tough" but said ministers would continue to take unpopular decisions for the good of the country.

what do you think?

You get the message? Don't make me laugh! You'll carry on fobbing us off like you always have! Cameron is a greedy money grabbing scammer. And to think this shower got in by default. He is hell bent on wrecking this country and is determined to defecate all over it. We must cut the deficit? What utter lies. Biggest con since global warming. Money doesn't even exist its nothing but paper and cheap metal- print off a few trillion and stop regarding our planet with this evil monetary system!

Politicians are all the same when they get a hiding.. We must listen to the people, we have lost touch with our core supporters, we get the message. Mistakes were made on immigration, the banks, tax etc etc. All this from Ed Millibland since the last election. And then platitudes over it's business as usual. What worries me is vast swathes of the electorate believe this Bulls***

" Gets the Message". Rubbish. He's still trying to sell us his message, that his failed policies are still right. We know the coalition are not a " bunch of accountants" Accountants may be boring, but they're normally honest. The message is " It's not working, so change your ideaologic policies now and start making Growth and Employment the priority. Preferably, have an election to see what the country and the message really is.

"Gets the message".. !!!!!!! I very much doubt it mate. The message is "Clear off"...!!!! With all the combined faults of Blair and Brown, accumulated over 10 years or so, the people would still have Labour back in an instant. Camoron and Hardy, have now realised it's not just a case of blaming Labour that makes for a good government. Or selling and sacking, to balance the books. People need to live. The next two years of back peddling will not be enough to save this bunch of Thatcherite buffons. Bring it on. The Camoron method of economising doesn't involve the rich, obviously. Fuel costs could double, but his lot wouldn't really be affected. The rest of us are the ones who have to suffer. Osbourne with his "unpopular decisions for the good of the country". The Tories have never made any policies for "the good of the country". It'll be a long time before we see another Tory in power, when this oaf is ousted, that is.

its a pity camoran seems to believe his own crap if he really understood the people of this country he would resign now, his ideas for the country are not working he i just tinkering around the edges, for once in his life he should listen to people that really know what they are talking about, not his bunch of advisers that have no more idea than he does, the people of this country have given him a message but he will continue to believe that he knows better than any one else because he is arragant and without a clue,

You know after the last two governments of office I now hate politics "con men look after your mates because you can" what i hate more is seeing real people struggle to live, when we have certain tycoons running around scott free after overseeing total injustice within their groups. Its no wonder people refuse to vote, when even after the event they still cant see the wood for the trees.

This coalition is so out of touch with ordinary people i am now 42 pounds a week due to working tax credit cuts. They want people off benefits but are not helping people to be better off when in work on minimum wage. We need positive change!

Cameron still hasn't got the message. Yes, we mainly agree that Labour left the economy in a mess. Nevertheless, the Tories are hitting the wrong people. Pensioners who have paid tax and NI receive far less than immigrants who have paid nothing. We have cut our defences to the bone, if not actually in to it, yet we splash out GBP 9bn anbnually in overseas aid. The country is overcrowded, so one minute he promises to cut immigration, and the next he is in Turkey promising to support their bid for EU membership. He just doesn't get it.
