Car Thieves Dump Children By Birmingham Road

Police in Birmingham are searching for two car thieves who drove off with two young children still strapped into the back of the vehicle.

The 23-year-old mother of the children was pulled from behind the wheel of her white Vauxhall Astra in Erdington on Wednesday night by two men who then stole the car, West Midlands Police said.

Her two children, aged five years and 18 months, were driven for about half a mile before being left, unhurt, at the side of the road.

A passer-by found them and they were quickly reunited with their mother.

West Midlands Police Detective Sergeant Julie Woods, said: "The car is a white Vauxhall Astra, registration KV60 BNX, and had blacked-out windows; we want to know where this car is and are asking for anyone who believes they may have spotted it to contact us.

"This was a frightening ordeal for the mum who saw her young children being driven off by the car thieves, but thankfully they were back with her unhurt in just a matter of minutes. The mum was also unhurt."

Police are going through CCTV footage from the area in an attempt to work out where the stolen Astra was taken.

Anyone with information about the robbery or has seen the car is asked to call the 101 police non-emergency number or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

I hope they catch these two men and charge them with a lot more than theft of the car. They're callous actions put the lives of two young children at risk.

Well said Vlad....Iwas told a long time ago by a policeman that if no descriptions are put out the cime is often commited by those other than white.

perhaps locking the car door once in side might be a good idea !

Don't know why you've got thumbs down for this bit of excellent advice, I always lock the vehicle when I'm driving and I'm a big bloke who can handle himself.

gunit it's a difficult choice. I was always afraid i'd be in an accident and the kids wouldn't be able to get out , then if the doors are unlocked you are afraid they will mess with the handle and fall out!

If your unfortunate to be in an accident that requires help from outsiders then I suggest your better off waiting for the emergency services, surly if you were in a life or death situation after an accident and the doors were locked you'd just smash the window, I know my wife's car automatically locks the doors once the handbrake is released.

I was aways afraid of being in a car that went on fire. Actally once was in a bad smash where i has unlocked doors and the car was so wrecked that i couldn't get the doors open anyway. We all have different fears i supose and fir scares me more than thieves, but that's just me.

Louisa, I Gomez heartily agree with you, but I never thought a race card was being played. Even really stupid people know that you get an element of criminality in all ethnicities, don't they? I just thought these two men might look like Cannon and Ball.

In an ironic way these were caring thieves. Probs did not realize kids were in the car when they robbed it. Hence making off by foot halfway. This is a great ending considering the news you hear these days. Kids are back with mother in one peace and she got her car back.

We're very lucky it ended well. To leave two small children by the side of a road was dangerous and reckless and could easily have ended in tragedy. The children would have been terrified, i imagine.

True they may not have intended to abduct the children but they were extremely reckless and callous in the way they dumped them at the side of the road. Poor values. Society needs to be protected from these people. I'm guessing they won't serve more than a year for this.

I had a Seat car that did actually lock whilst being driven.... However, I was informed by the manufactorers that the door locks would be released on impact. Perhaps all cars should be fitted with this idea. I do lock my doors when I drive at night especially when driving in towns.
