Car Thieves Dump Children By Birmingham Road

Police in Birmingham are searching for two car thieves who drove off with two young children still strapped into the back of the vehicle.
The 23-year-old mother of the children was pulled from behind the wheel of her white Vauxhall Astra in Erdington on Wednesday night by two men who then stole the car, West Midlands Police said.
Her two children, aged five years and 18 months, were driven for about half a mile before being left, unhurt, at the side of the road.
A passer-by found them and they were quickly reunited with their mother.
West Midlands Police Detective Sergeant Julie Woods, said: "The car is a white Vauxhall Astra, registration KV60 BNX, and had blacked-out windows; we want to know where this car is and are asking for anyone who believes they may have spotted it to contact us.
"This was a frightening ordeal for the mum who saw her young children being driven off by the car thieves, but thankfully they were back with her unhurt in just a matter of minutes. The mum was also unhurt."
Police are going through CCTV footage from the area in an attempt to work out where the stolen Astra was taken.
Anyone with information about the robbery or has seen the car is asked to call the 101 police non-emergency number or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Well said Vlad....Iwas told a long time ago by a policeman that if no descriptions are put out the cime is often commited by those other than white.

gunit1969
perhaps locking the car door once in side might be a good idea !

Steve Marshall
Don't know why you've got thumbs down for this bit of excellent advice, I always lock the vehicle when I'm driving and I'm a big bloke who can handle himself.

Princess Angelique
I don't know why you got the thumbs down either! However, I rarely lock my car door when I'm inside - just in case I'm in an accident and no-one can get me out!

james stevenson
So do i steve

keith harrison
you shouldnt have to lock your car door, and if your in an accident with doors locked harder for people to help you, we need some real harsh punishments for such sc...um

Louisa Gieldon
gunit it's a difficult choice. I was always afraid i'd be in an accident and the kids wouldn't be able to get out , then if the doors are unlocked you are afraid they will mess with the handle and fall out!

Steve Marshall
If your unfortunate to be in an accident that requires help from outsiders then I suggest your better off waiting for the emergency services, surly if you were in a life or death situation after an accident and the doors were locked you'd just smash the window, I know my wife's car automatically locks the doors once the handbrake is released.

Louisa Gieldon
I was aways afraid of being in a car that went on fire. Actally once was in a bad smash where i has unlocked doors and the car was so wrecked that i couldn't get the doors open anyway. We all have different fears i supose and fir scares me more than thieves, but that's just me.

Louisa Gieldon
And i had nothing to smash the windows with and was upside down!

Angela Gildea
What if the children tried cross the road or ran as they were afraid and killed?

Russell6730
Has anybody wondered why no descriptions were mentioned?

Hector Gomez
I hadn't wondered but now I'm curious. Perhaps they looked like someone famous! Maybe .......... Ant and Dec!

Louisa Gieldon
Or maybe Hector, they were extra terrestrials and the government was afraid it would whip up inter galactic mayhem! Russell honestly! I keep being criticised for "playing the race card" but you make a comment like that and get six thumbs up immediately. I hope with all my heart that the thieves were white and you end up picking egg off your face.

Hector Gomez
Louisa, I Gomez heartily agree with you, but I never thought a race card was being played. Even really stupid people know that you get an element of criminality in all ethnicities, don't they? I just thought these two men might look like Cannon and Ball.

shirley sutton
What's it got to do with race card he just wondered why there were no descriptions given?

Hector Gomez
Oh dear dear Shirley, God bless your innocent soul.

Shirley that is not innocent. it's disingenuous.

make jail hell on earth when you break the law.then maybe some people would not break the law...but if your looking for a cheap holiday break the law..free meals nice warm bed t.v sky computer games gym.and if something dont make you happy sue and you make money out of it to

james stevenson
usual scu* they might have needed the car to fund their drug habbit, or they are just brainless morons

ali baba
In an ironic way these were caring thieves. Probs did not realize kids were in the car when they robbed it. Hence making off by foot halfway. This is a great ending considering the news you hear these days. Kids are back with mother in one peace and she got her car back.

Louisa Gieldon
We're very lucky it ended well. To leave two small children by the side of a road was dangerous and reckless and could easily have ended in tragedy. The children would have been terrified, i imagine.

Jasmin Louise
The car can be replaced. The lives of the children are more important...Caring? I think not.

Hector Gomez
True they may not have intended to abduct the children but they were extremely reckless and callous in the way they dumped them at the side of the road. Poor values. Society needs to be protected from these people. I'm guessing they won't serve more than a year for this.

Russell6730
Many more comments like yours Ali and those 2 thieves when caught will get a knighthood.

ali baba
The thieves are bad Russel, fact. But I repeat my god its a good ending.

Louisa Gieldon
Ali i know what you mean. Relative to other incidents, it did end well, thank goodness!

Lorgar Aurelian
No such thing as a caring thief.

keith
She has not got the car back!! QUOTE West Midlands Police Detective Sergeant Julie Woods, said: "The car is a white Vauxhall Astra, registration KV60 BNX, and had blacked-out windows; we want to know where this car is and are asking for anyone who believes they may have spotted it to contact us.

I agree the 'race card' shouldn't be taboo,it should be talked about. Basically I feel it's wrong for anyone to use their ethnicity to get out of trouble or use ethnicity to stigmatise others.

Louisa Gieldon
What's african about the word "taboo" ? Think it's an indian word anyway?

Eric Coster
Kid napping, child abuse and violent behaviour. If caught they will be let off after being told "You are very naughty boys". Lawyers and Judges will make a tidy sum for there part in the History of Britain, Return to the Dark Ages. Coming to a street near you.

GillieLouise
I had a Seat car that did actually lock whilst being driven.... However, I was informed by the manufactorers that the door locks would be released on impact. Perhaps all cars should be fitted with this idea. I do lock my doors when I drive at night especially when driving in towns.

gypsy56
Whether intentional or not it is still kidnap and abduction on minors as well as aggraveted theft. They also endangered the lives of these children by abandoning them (NOT the car ali baba) by the side of a road!

I hope they catch these two men and charge them with a lot more than theft of the car. They're callous actions put the lives of two young children at risk.
