Chelsea Fan 'Made Racist Gesture Towards Player'

Chelsea Football Club are investigating after a supporter apparently made a racist gesture towards a Manchester United player.

A photograph taken at the game appears to show a fan making a 'monkey' gesture towards a United player during Wednesday night's Capital One Cup clash between the two clubs at Stamford Bridge.

Police are also aware of the photograph but have not begun an inquiry as they have yet to receive a formal complaint.

A statement from the club read: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm we are investigating an incident involving a member of the crowd at last night's game against Manchester United.

"The club will be examining all available footage and asks anyone who can identify the individual to contact the club.

"Chelsea FC is committed to removing all forms of discrimination and if we have sufficient evidence we will take the strongest possible action, including supporting criminal prosecution."

The incident comes three days after the Premier League encounter between the two clubs when Chelsea accused referee Mark Clattenburg of using inappropriate language towards midfielder John Obi Mikel.

The English players' union boss Gordon Taylor confirmed this week that Clattenburg is facing claims that he used racist language.

Chelsea captain John Terry is currently serving a four-match ban for racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

what do you think?

A total ban on Association Football, that`ll do the trick.

This is starting to get a bit boring now, lets all just treat each other with a bit of respect and treat other people the way that we would like to be treated. If we all had this standard in life then we would not have this problem

As a matter of interest, how many white football players, play in african teams? And if they did, would they get so sensitive over a few gestures?

The 'N' word is used amongst some black people in order to disarm it, like some g a y people use the 'Q' word. However, it means something totally different coming out of the mouth of somebody else. I would have thought you would have known that, or are you just being 'coy'?

That's precisly what it is an insult, it's about time the black people of Britain got a grip and stop making weak excuses as to why they are so offended..... This country is not a racist country if it were you would see it everywhere...personally I don't know any racists and have rarely come across them, too much is made out of too little and with all these black societies for lawyers police etc, things will only get worse as you feed the minds of division...get a grip.
