Cheryl Cole completes tattoo collection with huge design

Pop star Cheryl Cole is finished with tattoos after having a huge rose design inked onto her back over a painful two-day period.

The Fight For This Love hitmaker stunned fans on the opening night of the Girls Aloud comeback tour in Newcastle on Thursday night when she showed off the massive inking on the small of her back.

The design, two red roses in bloom, was completed after 15 hours in the tattooist's chair over an agonising two days last year, and Cole admits her latest body art will probably be her last.

She tells The Sun, "It was really painful but I think I'm done with tattoos now. It wasn't for any particular reason, I just liked the design. It took 15 hours in total.

"I actually got it five months ago - but it's somewhere on my body you wouldn't expect people to see it very often. It was done by this amazing artist called Nikko Hurtado who basically travels round the world going to conventions."

The star boasts a number of tattoos, including a Polynesian tribal symbol on her hand and barbed wire around her thigh.

I think it's technically more advanced now John. We tend to think of tattoos as "Chavvy" but they are as old as mankind itself. Celtic, viking, polynesian. maori, indian, middle eastern history shows us the cultural and spititual importance of tattoos. Black cultures tended not to be big on tattoos because dark skin doesn't showcase them in the same way. So in African countries, scarification, piercings, lip augmentation and nose and ear decoration took precedence. Also the services, merchant navy and prison cultures embraced tattooing. Its dead interesting!

People have always tattooed themselves. Some ancient tribal tattoes are fantastic. I hate some and like others but tattooists are definitely more skilled and artistic than they once were. I hate the tacky ones, i'm afraid, but have seen many that are lovely. Pity Orange didn't show a picture of the rose tattoo as it was beautiful, if very large! I agree with the comments about the desperation to show them off -off the shoulder tops and skimpy clothes in winter just so they are on show. I like it best when people don't talk about their tattoos unless they are asked.
