Cheryl Cole: 'It's time to forgive Chris Brown'

Cheryl Cole has risked the wrath of women's groups by insisting it's high time the world forgave Chris Brown for beating up then-girlfriend Rihanna during a 2009 fight.

The Kiss Kiss hitmaker was vilified after the attack, which left his ex black and blue and led to an assault conviction.

Brown publicly apologised for his actions and recently reteamed with his ex to work on two new songs, but though Rihanna may have forgiven her former boyfriend, many of his fiercest critics haven't.

Grammy Awards bosses were slammed by women's groups and fellow celebrities for handing Brown an award earlier this year and allowing him to perform twice at the ceremony.

But now Cole has come to his defence, insisting it's time people forgave Brown.

In a radio interview on Thursday, Cole said, "I think it's really kind of Rihanna actually (to forgive Brown). She's come out and publicly forgiven him really. I think it's about time we all did if I'm completely honest, if you want my opinion... I think it's time we all moved on. That guy is talented as hell.

"I work with people all the time with my charity that are transformed characters. They've done things when they were young that they regret, they've been to prison and they're now upstanding members of the public and help our community and are amazing people."

Ironically, Cole's comments come as the Girls Aloud star fights to ditch her marital surname after splitting from Ashley Cole in 2010.

The singer filed for divorce from the international ace following allegations he had cheated on her with a string of women.

Sorry Cheryl Just because he has apologised in public does not mean he should be forgiven This was the first time he got caught, who knows how many other women he has already or will go on the beat up in the future up This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable to decent society I can only assume you have interest in this man with you impending divorce, another rich and famous person to latch on to to give your dying career a boost as it goes through it death throws

To be honest, it's no-one's responsibility to forgive the pimple. This was something that allegedly happened between Rihanna and Brown so they all need to be a bit more refined and hush about their dodgy lifestyles, spats and scraps. As for the "black and blue" details, I recall the front page on which Rihanna appeared to show her wounds and we couldn't really see anything. While I obviously don't condone men hitting women, I don't either condone women hitting men or either gender hitting their own. It's just not how decent people live. Brown was a bad egg for what he did, but he matters not to me and so I won't be forgiving him or not doing! I just know I wouldn't be dating the fool.

The article states there was an assault conviction Seem to blow your post 'This was something that allegedly happened' out of the water

To clarify, I said, "Allegedly happened between Rihanna and Brown" - my point was that no-one else was involved... I later referred to "what he did", acknowledging the conviction.

Does anyone really expect anything else from this lowlife. She thinks she is qualified to give advise and opinions to other people, well she should get her own life sorted before she does that. She is a proven violent being and maybe she thinks it is ok to behave in this manner, well DECENT human beings do not behave like this, wonder if the woman who was at the end of her vile behavior is able to forgive her, she should shut her vile mouth and stop sticking her nose into things she clearly has no real conception ofl.

The problem is young girls actually see her as a role model. What's next? "he only hits me when he's drunk" "I provoked him" etc etc She really should engage brain before mouth

It's always easier for the victim to forgive the woman beater that's how the bloke manages to do it over and over again. It's always harder for others to forgive the bloke as they see the affect on the woman. Maybe Cheryl has never had a friend or relative beaten up by a bloke. and a leopard doesn't change his spots!

Silly woman! Engage brain before mouth! She has been convicted of violence to an innocent person and the wrong side of an unfaithful husband! Just do your X factor judging and leave the 'real life' stuff to real people.

"I think it's time we all moved on. That guy is talented as hell." I'm not sure I see the relevance - or is she suggesting that it's acceptable for talented people to punch women? Maybe in her mind, this excuses her GBH conviction... although personally, I don't consider Miss/Mrs Tweedy/Cole to have any discernible talent whatsoever.

Oh dear. Rihanna hasn't actually forgiven him either, not after he bragged about what he did in a song he released on the internet a couple of weeks ago. Another celeb commenting on stuff they know very little about....embarrassing
