China: Driver Chases Out-Of-Control Bus
A surveillance video has captured the moment a driver chased after an out-of-control bus as it sped down down a busy road in China.
The bus had crashed at an intersection in Fujian province when it suddenly sped away, knocking down a traffic light.
Tian Yuchao who was driving another bus at the same intersection got out of his vehicle to run after the runaway bus.
He said: "I thought there must have been something wrong with the bus driver. Normally, he wouldn't drive the bus there.
"So I was watching the bus while I was at the red light."
CCTV footage shows the bus running into a guard rail and hitting 11 cars. Mr Tian managed to reach bus but was unable to turn on an emergency stop switch near its front wheel, and the bus sped off again.
He then asked a passing motorist for help, and eventually managed to turn on the switch and stop the bus.
The driver of the runaway bus is in a stable condition in hospital. According to doctors, he suffered a stroke when the accident took place.
Mr Tian added: "I felt a little scared after that.
"But I think it is worthwhile to control the bus and reduce the damage to a minimum."
According to a preliminary investigation by traffic police in Cangshan District, the driver of the bus asked passengers to get off after feeling unwell as he planned to drive back to the depot.
But on his way back his condition worsened.
No one was injured in the accident.
