China: Man Saves Toddler From Tragic Fall
A two-year-old girl in China has been saved after falling from an eighth-floor window.
Yuan Jianping was going for an evening walk in the northwest city of Gaoling when the incident happened.
"I was passing by the building when somebody shouted that she was falling," said the 36-year-old teacher.
"I looked up and saw something falling. I just rushed over to catch it without thinking," he said.
He took the girl to a local hospital to find all that was wrong with her was a slight rib fracture.
Mr Yuan, who lives in the same neighbourhood as the little girl, works at a local school.
"At that moment, I didn't think about what would happen to me, like my arms could be broken or I that might sustain severe injuries," he said as he recalled his split-second decision.
"My only thought was saving the little girl. It was more of an instinct.
"If I had waited one more second, she would have fallen to the ground and I would have witnessed a terrible accident."
Reports said the little girl's parents were not at home when the accident happened.
