Chinese Firefighter Rescues Falling Woman

Firefighters have rescued a woman who it was feared might be about to jump out of a window of a building in east China's Anhui Province.

The woman had locked herself in her bedroom on Sunday and climbed onto the window sill in the early morning, following a fight with her husband.

Her family could not get her down despite a five-hour appeal and ended up calling the police.

After further talks, the firemen decided to bring the woman down by force.

The rescuers were then divided into three groups.

The first lowered a firefighter on a safety harness from the roof of the three-storey building so that he could push the woman into the room.

The second helped a fireman force his way into the room so that he would be there to work with the first fireman.

The third group was used to lay covering on the ground in case of a fall.

The woman seemed to faint when she heard the bedroom door burst open and the firefighter being lowered.

At precisely that moment, the firefighter outside the building grabbed hold of her and carried her down to the ground.

The woman was subsequently taken to hospital.
