Chuck D files record label lawsuit

Public Enemy star Chuck D has filed a £66.7 million lawsuit accusing bosses at his record label of owing him money from royalty payments.

The hip-hop icon - real name Carlton Douglas Ridenhour - claims executives at Universal Music Group have underpaid him and other artists in regard to digital downloads and ringtones.

He filed a class-action lawsuit against them in U.S. District Court in California on Tuesday, claiming Universal chiefs owe their artists "hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties", according to Reuters.

A statement from reps at the Universal Music Group, obtained by TheWrap.com, reads, "This complaint suffers from serious flaws and weaknesses, not the least of which is that the claims asserted are not appropriate for class treatment. We will vigorously defend against it."
