Controlled Explosion In Manchester City Centre
A controlled explosion has been carried out on a suspect package after a bomb scare in Manchester city centre.
Police say Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts triggered the blast in New York Street.
Hundreds of workers were evacuated after the discovery of a bag that is thought to have been left at the back of the Mecure Manchester Piccadilly hotel.
A 100-metre cordon was put in place and a number of roads closed.
Police say an examination of the package revealed a laptop computer and cables, but no explosive device.
