Craig Charles: 'New Red Dwarf exceeds my expectations'

Craig Charles has promised fans they won't be disappointed with the latest return of the Red Dwarf franchise, insisting the new series' writing is among the best in the show's history.

The cast are reuniting for the first time since 2009 in Red Dwarf X, which will air on Dave next month, and Charles, who plays Dave Lister in the longrunning cult hit, is adamant viewers will be impressed with the six new episodes.

He tells TV Choice, "I'm really pleased with it. The writing is right up there with some of the best ever written for the series. It's exceeded my expectations. And of course with technology moving on so much, it makes it look spectacular."

Regulars Robert Llewellyn (Kryten), Danny John-Jules (The Cat) and Chris Barrie (Rimmer) all return for the new season.

The boys from the Dwarf are back. Can't wait. Just as long as it's as good as Craig says it is. I have series 1 to 6 on DVD but didn't get 7 and 8 because they were pants. It was sad how such a great show ended in such an anti-climax, but let's hope the writers have rescued it. Fingers crossed.
