Dave Lee Travis 'Arrested By Savile Police'
Former DJ Dave Lee Travis has been arrested by police investigating the Jimmy Savile child abuse scandal, Sky sources have said.
The one time Radio 1 star and former presenter of Top Of The Pops is reportedly being questioned on suspicion of sexual offences.
He was arrested by detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Operation Yewtree at his home in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, at 7.45am, according to sources.
It is understood that the allegations do not directly involve Savile and are classed under the strand of the investigation termed "others".
The Metropolitan Police force is leading a national investigation into abuse allegations made against disgraced Jim'll Fix It presenter Savile.
So far, around 450 potential victims have come forward and 200 allegations of sexual assault have been made.
Officers are looking at three strands within their inquiry - claims against Savile, those against Savile and others, and those against others.
Most of the "others" allegations have been made against people associated with the entertainment industry.
Former glam rock star Gary Glitter, comedian Freddie Starr and a 73-year-old man have already been arrested and bailed in connection with the investigation.
A 1977 episode of Top Of The Pops featuring Mr Travis was due to be shown on BBC4 on Thursday night but has been pulled.
A BBC spokesman said: "In the light of today's news, we have postponed tonight's Top Of The Pops.
"In its place we are showing next week's edition of TOTP presented by Kid Jensen."
Last month Mr Travis vigorously denied allegations that he groped two women while in BBC studios.

what do you think?

shaun spencer
He apparently groped a womans breast once.

Well all us blokes had better look out

shaun spencer
Its got to be remembered that a sexual offence can range from pinching a womans bottom to more serious indecent assault.its such a broad term.i think every body has a freind or relative that is a bit careless with their hands and usually a quick slap from the offended woman suffices .

blue side
Interesting though Shaun that it takes all these years for some woman who has been groped to come forward and I wonder how many times in her life she has been 'groped' - is she complaining about the other times or just this one cause its a celeb?

Chris Haynes
Unfortunate picture of him posing with 'manic' eyes. We've become use to seeing every photo of JS wearing a similar expression. Hope that's the only thing they have in common.

Chris Haynes
Orange must be reading these posts quite closely as they have replaced the earlier photo with one a little less scary.

Not sure exactly what part of abuse you'd find particularly 'juicy'??

here we go again somebody made allegations against another high profile enetertainer.lets hope whoever made these allegations has their facts right otherwise i do hope they throw the book at whoever.once again the press has jumped on this and put it in the public domain.i did post on another thread about this business of anonymity. why is it that whover is accused and whatever they're accused of is put in the press yet the person thats made the accusations is allowed to remain anonymous.mud sticks rightly or wrongly.

shaun spencer
I believe the police have to arrest them for wasting police time then they can be named and possibly even sued by the accused..

Lorgar Aurelian
I've always said that. Even if she has cried rape mostly they remain anonymous and protected by law, while the bloke's life has been ruined because idiots say there's no smoke without fire. Either name them both or name none.

Here we.go again....

Yes, there was a complaint made RECENTLY by a woman who claimed that he groped her when she was 17 ... over the age of consent and yet she has waited all this time to "mention" it. I am not comfortable with the scale of this and the number of "potential victims". Also the massive coincidence that most of the "perpetrators" are conveniently dead or already convicted (GG for example). I also remember a certain Child Abuse Scandal 20 years ago where hundreds of children were removed from their "abusing parents" and it all turned out to be a "mistake" by some doctors ... Add that to people claiming to have "survived" the twin tower fires yet proven to never have even been in them. I don't doubt there has been some serious assaults by JS but I am not convinced of the sheer number of claims. A lot of work for the already overworked police ...

You talk sense

Andy Sunderland
Good article I agree with every word , It's now becoming mass hysteria

Jo Brierley
I have said this all along but been shouted down so shut up. I used to see Jimmy Saville every week when I was around 13-16 as I went to school by Wood Lane where TOTP was recorded. He was never interested in any of us school girls then. In fact he was blatently rude to us...funny that!!!

Diane Rogers
Jo you and me good job I have broad shoulders

Gordon Wright
An excellent point Sally, I believe the case you refer to was known as the "Cleveland child abuse scandal" where two Doctors (Higgs and Wyatt) were resposible for having children removed from perfectly innocent parents.

Don't stand too close to a nyone in the checkout queue. You may regret it when you're 70.

DLT was one of my favourite DJs when I was younger. Gutted about this as he always seemed such a clean above board guy. Interesting to note how jimmy savile now has his own police force known as the "savile police" I still think however that there is a little gold digging going on here now compensation has been mentione.

Gordon Wright
Correct, the strong smell of money is attracting a lot of people who probably never met Savile...............

Peter Edwardson
Be careful what you say. This one is alive and not charged.

Gordon Wright
Good advice my friend.............

i bet there are a lot of worried entertainers. how many skeletons are now rattling from the corporation? it seems there was a culture of letting young women in to gigs where the entertainer had his pick of starry eyed fans and a blind eye was turned. but i also think that many so called victims are getting on a gravy train where they see a quick buck can be made. i ask this question, how many men would turn down 16, 17, 18 year old females throwing themselves at them? i guess not many especially as the bosses seemed to encourage the attendance of young ladies so their programs looked good with the audiences.

Mick Daniel
Tricky one - on this basis the police will have to arrest almost evry member of a pop group who were around in the 60's and 70's

shirley sutton
Why don't they save time and just arrest anyone who worked for the bbc between 1960 and 1990 who ever came into contact with the public

Chris Price
This has to be someone jumping on the band wagon

Chris Price
"In its place we are showing next week's edition of TOTP presented by Kid Jensen." Oh wow!

Gordon Wright
Unless he too is arrested in the meantime of course..........

Geoff
"he groped two women while in BBC studios." Really? Is that it? Hardly in the same league as Savile or Glitter is it?

happymike CHESTER
The police did this in the 70/80`s at the time of the rent boys scandal innocent people pulled in let off while the real Paedophiles higher up the ladder got away with some in the lower orders sent to prison. Look`s like the same protect the guilty.

TIM x
Just hope DLT isn't tried convicted and hung out to dry by the media when no charges have been brought. As was Lord Mcalpine and Jo Yates landlord. This country can never return to the death penalty now due to the irresponsible media we have here.

Gordon Wright
Your comment on the Death penalty is very profound Tim and absolutely correct................

marc H
They are freezing savilles estate in order to pay compensation to his victims. Now, as the guy is dead, how do we know who is being truthful or not?

AliBumin
Why don`t they go for the real perpetrators?
