David Tennant plays the Virgin Mary in alternative nativity radio pantomime

Actor David Tennant has landed an unusual role by playing the Virgin Mary in an alternative nativity pantomime for the Absolute Radio station.

The former Doctor Who star took to the stage on Friday in a black wig and a flowing white gown alongside DJ Christian O'Connell, who played Joseph, and former soccer star Ian Wright, who played a bizarre dinosaur midwife.

Singer Newton Faulkner provided the music for the unusual ensemble while the Three Wise Men were played by a trio of Tennant's fans who won a competition to co-star with him.

The nativity pantomime aired live on Absolute Radio and a video of the show, entitled Dude, Where's My Donkey?, can be viewed on the station's website.
